I draw inspiration from my home in the Sonoran Desert—a place of striking contrasts and quiet beauty. The intense heat of the day gives way to cool desert nights, and with each rainstorm, flowers emerge from the dry sand. The desert’s palette—dusty greens, soft blues, warm browns, and muted golds—finds its way into my glazes, while the rugged, ribbed surfaces of cactus influence the textures in my work.
I create functional pottery, with each piece also serving as a work of art. Using a simple, yet ancient, coil technique I form organic shapes that interact with light and reveal something new from every angle. Whether placed on a dining table or displayed alongside other artwork, each piece is designed to be both useful and visually engaging.
Ceramics is a craft I discovered later in life. After retiring, I took a class for fun, hoping it might teach me patience—something I am still working on. I never expected it to become such a passion. I love the feel of clay in my hands and the endless possibilities it offers. And just when I start to feel overly confident, the clay has a way of humbling me and bringing me back to center.
